Courtyard of Theaters Redevelopment

UCLAx
Landscape Design 1
This project focused on reimagining the Courtyard of the Theaters at UCLA as a more engaging spatial experience rooted in form, proportion, and meaning. Beginning with abstract 3D studies, I explored how massing, void, rhythm, and threshold could shape movement and gathering. These conceptual investigations informed the site design, guiding decisions about spatial sequence, planting structure, and the placement of seating and circulation paths. The final proposal strengthens the courtyard’s identity as both a transitional space and a destination — creating a setting that supports performance, pause, and informal social interaction while expressing a clear spatial narrative.

My work explores how people move through, gather in, and form emotional relationships with landscape spaces. I’m interested in the balance between contemplation and activity, circulation and pause, and how planting, shade, seating, and spatial sequencing shape experience at the human scale.
